[Illume] Central TAFE's Fashion & Textile Graduate Parade 2012

16 fashion & textile design students graduating from the Central Institute of Technology presented their 6 piece collection in the grand Winthrop Hall at the University of Western Australia. The 500 strong crowd were treated to an inspiring show in which the students showed off their talent for design and innovative textiles!

As a past student myself it was lovely to see what the students had been up to! I was particularly impressed with the textiles the students produced. The course is well-renowned for its focus on textile techniques and design and this year the students even had a chance to develop their own digital prints. The exhibition after the parade allowed guests to view the beautiful textiles and garments up close and to fully appreciate the attention to detail and craftsmanship. It also gave guests the chance to meet the talented designers behind the work.

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to all the staff and students at Central TAFE on an amazing and inspiring show!

PART IIII: PERTH FASHION FESTIVAL 2012 {Giving Back is the New Black}

The closing night of Perth Fashion Festival 2012 in the Government House Ballroom was the perfect evening to wrap up and celebrate the 14th year of the festival. The night was aptly named 'Giving Back is the New Black' as 17 interpretations of the little black dress were showcased by some WA's most emerging and established designers!
Labels featured included Ruth Tarvydas, Wheels & Dollbaby, Poppy Lissiman, Zhivago, Fenella Peacock, Megan Salmon, Morrison, Story By Tang, One Fell Swoop, Ae’lkemi, Paper Skye, Little Gracie, Breathless, Ange Lang, Jaime Lee Major, Garth Cook and Ellery.
The dresses are now being auctioned to raise money for the Ready to Work charity, which assists disadvantaged, disabled and long-term unemployed women to enter the work place.

Sarah Pauley opened the show in an exquisit black lace gown by Ae'lkemi with her fiery red hair a striking contrast. All the models kept with the masquerade theme of the evening with dramatic head wear and masks specially designed by local millinery Reny Kestel. Brad Ngata from L'Oreal complimented Kestel's work by creating strikingly high, crimped and teased bouffants.
Closing with a second parade full of colourful outfits from the past week, the show's extremely talented project manager Jacqui Brown bought the end of PFF2012 back to the bold colourful beginning of the Program Launch in August.

Congratulations to all the designers, volunteers and Perth Fashion Festival team that made the 2012 festival certainly one to remember!!

PART III: Perth Fashion Festival 2012 {An Evening with Flannel}

I felt like I was in Paris....

An Evening with Flannel was unlike any other fashion event Perth has seen. The Museum of WA's Hacket Hall was transformed into a 1920's soiree by former Vogue editor Meg Gray and Perth Fashion Festival's Chelsey Wayte. It was like we had stepped back into the age of the The Great Gatsby and the atmosphere was magical.

Models sipped Pommery Champagne as they mingled with the guests around the bar and lounge areas introducing the first few looks of Flannel's new Summer 2012 collection, Neronis.

Guests were seated at long tables dressed with fresh orchids and 'small gardens' in vases for the three course banquet.
With pearls in their hair, the fresh faced models gracefully walked around the room presenting more pieces from the collection Neronis. Featuring rose fringed silk jackets and dresses with ornate embroidery and velvet trims, lots of lace in monochromatic colours and beautiful easy-wear day dresses with subtle prints in mint and coral.
